dance class

Last week, I took Mary Alice (3) to her very first ballet class. You know what this means! I went shopping the night before for the most perfect pastel pink leotard you’ve ever seen. It was bliss, pure bliss. Mary Alice was so excited.

The next morning, we entered the studio at Arizona Dance Artistry. It was incredible. They have a room off to the side with tables for parents to sit at with three closed circuit televisions to watch the dancers. The studio is very toddler friendly, which was wonderful since I had Sebastian (1) with me.

What I didn’t anticipate was that Mary Alice would have a hard time going inside without me. She is such an outgoing, friendly kid, I truly expected her to just walk in. The teachers calmly reassured me that this is very common and gave me steps of what to do next. Within five minutes, she was dancing and twirling and laughing. They were amazing and so patient with both of us. After a giddy evening of trying on her ballet outfit and waking up early for ponytail practice, I absolutely didn’t expect her to hang on to me so tightly. I’m so thankful for their gentleness and demeanor. Not once did I feel like I was an inconvenience.

I absolutely loved the staff and the studio and would recommend Arizona Dance Artistry to anyone!

Here is a little bit about their studio:

“Our mission is to produce smart, adaptable and professional dancers in a dance education center unlike any other facility. Our goal is not only to guide our dancers in the classroom but also in life and career. Our program goes beyond any typical ballet and jazz program because we have an emphasis on educating our athletic dancers on injury prevention and overall wellness, performance quality, arts history and how to be independent problem solvers.”

Our integrated strengthening programs for ballet provide our dancers with more education and vision on body awareness, wellness and safety.

Our attention to core strength and “mindful motion” has created a center point in our training that is creative and unmatched.

Even our youngest dancers, at the age of 2yrs, are working toward our curriculum goals in a modified program that is age appropriate and playful.

The 4 pillars of our program curriculum:

1-Research-based teaching principles
2-Cecchetti method of ballet technique and classical study/performance
3-Pilates and strengthening work
4- Progressive training model with assessments and feedback
