5 Hacks to Help You Save Money at Target!

1

“No one goes to Target because they need something, you go to Target and let Target tell you what you need.” How many of you ladies can relate to this? I find it amazing how much money you can spend at Target so quickly and without really realizing it. I have become a victim of walking into that store with the intention to buy my little a pair of shoes and then leaving with clothes, toys, food and other things I grabbed along the way. After years of watching money just float away, I have researched 5 hacks to help you actually save money at Target. Ready to hear them? Let’s go!

  1. Know the Layout – As you walk into the store start off at Bullseye’s playground, especially during major holidays. You can save big on major finds such as toys, learning activities and home décor all ranging from $1 – $5. As you walk through the store go to the inner end caps and you will find groups of clearance items all together. Back in the day all of the clearance items were red and now they have changed the color to yellow, so look for the yellow signs!
  2. Read the Tags – the secret to saving big is knowing how to read the clearance tags. In the upper right-hand corner, you will see a number, that number represents the percent in which you are saving and the lower left-hand number is the original price. If the price ends in $.04 that means this is the lowest in which this item will be marked down. If the price ends in $.06 or $.08 that means it may be discounted even more so you can decide whether to scoop it up or wait till later.
  3. Know the Secrets – you can price match at Target from Amazon, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, etc. at the customer service desk so use that to your advantage. And if it goes on sale within 3 weeks of purchasing you can just bring back the item and your receipt and they will give you the better price. Also, download the Target app, it tells you where all the sales are and gives you additional savings. Did you know Target offers returns on their Cat & Jack line for up to a year?
  4. Know the Schedule – The big baby sales are in January and July so look for lots of cash back rebates and discounts. Target also has a weekly markdown schedule for their departments. This is so important because you know the day things go on sale so you can be the first person to scoop up some major deals. We all know how fast those items go! Shopping after holiday sales is also a great way to save. The day after items are marked down 50%, 3 days after they are marked down 75% and 3 weeks after they are marked down 90%. I have found some amazing scores! This is Target’s (completely unofficial) weekly markdown schedule:
    • Monday: Electronics, accessories, kids’ clothing, books, baby and stationery
    • Tuesday: Domestics, women’s clothing, pets and market (food items)
    • Wednesday: Men’s clothing, health and beauty, lawn and garden
    • Thursday: Housewares, lingerie, shoes, toys, sporting goods, decor and luggage
    • Friday: Auto, cosmetics, hardware, home improvement and jewellery
  5. What to Buy and What Not to Buy – year round its always a safe bet to get clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies and general grocery staples. But there are a few things you should stay away from, party supplies, furniture and home décor. Never buy unless they are on super sale! The best time you want to stock up is when they are on clearance.

I hope this article helped you save a ton on your next Target run!

  1. There’s a reason why Target started to use “target run” in their marketing! I think just about everyone has found themselves in the situation of going in for one item, and coming out with quite a few more. This is great to have. Definitely going to employ some of these tactics next time I pop in for a quick item.
