Natural cold remedies I swear by!

cold remediesI can’t believe that it is March and the cold/flu season is still going strong! Honestly, the flu scared me so much this year that I avoided the gym so I didn’t have to put my baby in their daycare and stayed clear of public places for kids. Luckily, our house avoided the flu (I hope I didn’t just jinx it) but we all got pretty bad colds. I learned quickly that if you are pregnant or breastfeeding there is very little, if anything that you can take to help feel better. I started to research a ton of natural remedies to help fight colds and here is a few that I now swear by.

Honey– This tasty treat is full of antibacterial properties. Some Doctors believe that a spoon full of honey can be just as effective as a over the counter cough suppressant. I took a spoon full of honey with every meal and right before bed and my cough only lasted a few days! Note: Babies under the age of one should not have honey!

Apple Cider Vinegar– This is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. It is known to thin out mucus and move it out of your system quicker. I mixed 2 tablespoons of vinegar with hot water and lemon 2-3 times a day. You can also throw in your dose of honey!

Lemon– Lemon is known to help cure a sore throat. The juice helps shrink your throat tissues. If you add it to your tea or hot apple cider vinegar water it will help fight virus and bacteria.

Steam room/showers– My daughter and I both got our coughs around the same time. Before I put her down for each nap, and at night I would fill our bathroom with steam and we would sit in there for 5-10 minutes. Her cough also, only lasted a few days.

Feel better soon!

  1. These are fantastic to know about! Getting dragged down by cold/flu can truly be the worst, especially when you’re not exactly able to call it quits and just stay in bed all day (much as we may want to). Definitely bookmarking this for future reference.
