Family Friendly events for June

JUNE!

Half way through the year! It’s true what they say, “The days are long but the weeks, months, & years are short.” And this year just seems to be flying right on by. June kicks off the summer vacation schedule for families in Scottsdale. Sure, we might be able to get away for a week or two this summer, but if you need some family friendly ideas for what to do this month, read on, mama! Scottsdale Moms Blog has some ideas for you to keep those kids entertained.

McCormick Stillman Railroad Park’s Concert Series – Sundays from April 30. Enjoy a variety of local bands from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays at the park. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks, or buy munchies on-site. Train and carousel tickets are $2 each with kids younger than 2 riding free with a paying adult. For information on bands, etc visit the Railroad Park’s website.

Western Wednesdays at Scottsdale’s Museum of the West – Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West invites families to beat the heat this June with a series of four different “Western Wednesday” events! Each Western Wednesday will include fun, hands-on activities for kids ages 6 through 14, where they will learn about cowboys/cowgirls, animals of the West, Native American crafts, life in a covered wagon, and outlaws and lawmen! Cost per person for adults and children ages 6 and older is $5. Children 5 and under are free. Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to join in the fun! Check out the theme of each Western Wednesday at Scottsdale Museum of the West’s website.

Summer Concert Series at Kierland Commons – Saturdays, June 3 & 10 7pm – 9pm. The final two weeks of this series for the season. Bring the family, a lawn chair and arrive early. Father’s Day – Sunday, June 18. The day to celebrate and honor those incredible dads and all the dad-like figures in our lives. New dads, old dads, granddads, dads-in-law, stepdads, serious dads, goofball dads…There must be a million fatherly types out there, and without a doubt, there are at least that many reasons and ways to honor them on Father’s Day. Here’s a few ideas of what to do with Dad besides the standard Dad Grills for Us (or is that just my family?)

  • AZ Diamondbacks game – A day at the ballpark is fun for most dads. Unfortunately the D-Backs are away on June 18, but they are home the weekend before and the weekend after. Check out their June schedule here.
  • Butterfly Wonderland – On Sunday, June 18th guests are invited to celebrate Father’s Day amongst 3,000 butterflies at Butterfly Wonderland, where Fathers will receive $2.00 off admission.
  • OdySea Aquarium –  Dads will receive $10.00 off general admission on Sunday, June 18th only (this does not include combo tickets or special encounters programs).
  • OdySea in the Desert Entertainment Destination, Fathers will receive $5.00 off an aqua massage at Vitality Oxygen Bar & Aqua Massage, while Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will offer one free hand dipped chocolate strawberry to any dad with any in store purchase.
  • Phoenix Zoo Members – Celebrate Father’s Day at the Zoo! Treat dad to a hearty breakfast buffet inside the Zoo’s scenic Stonehouse Pavilion. Pricing & reservation info at Phx Zoo Website

Vacation Bible School – Options galore around Scottsdale all month long. In a previous post, SMB published a long list of churches around town offering a VBS program. If you missed that post, you can find it here. You can basically send your kiddos off to VBS every week for the entire month of June. I’m just saying you could. But what would you possibly do with all that time? Wink.
