Nine Great Kids Parks in Scottsdale

2

Parks were our saving grace when we first moved to Scottsdale. This post is mostly geared towards fellow newcomers to the area, but maybe some veterans will see a “new to them” park, or be reminded of someplace they haven’t visited in a while. Plus, with cooler temperatures on the horizon (*cough cough,* here is looking at you mother nature, *cough cough*), hopefully this post will provide a new spot to love. I attempted to include major cross streets in every map so that you all will have a better idea on where some of these parks are located (if you are directionally challenged, like myself).

In no particular order, here are nine great kids parks in Scottsdale…

1. George “Doc” Cavalliere Park: Not that I should claim a favorite, but this park might be my favorite. There is a fantastic shaded play area, a large spot of turf for running around, bathroom access and some great trails. It might be a little out of the way for some, but absolutely worth a visit in my opinion. When arriving at the park entrance, keep a close lookout, because it does sneak up quickly! 27775 N Alma School Parkway Scottsdale, AZ 85262

2. Grayhawk Park: This is a popular park among many people I know and for good reason! There are two large open space areas, restrooms, and a great playground. It can be a bit busy since it is connected to some sporting fields, so weekday mornings may be best to visit this spot if you are wanting to avoid larger crowds. 20726 N 76th Way Scottsdale, AZ 85255

3. Sonoran Hills Park: Sonoran Hills is located right next to Pinnacle Peak Elementary. There are two shaded play areas that are a hop, skip, and a jump between each other. They accommodate kiddos who are at different skill levels for play. Restrooms are available too. 7625 E Williams Drive Scottsdale, AZ 85255

4. Cactus Park: Both of my littles love this park. Great area for swings, two different play structures (which are both shaded) and (again) bathroom access. Lots of friendly parents at this park, and sometimes you can catch a stroller class in action too. 7202 E Cactus Road Scottsdale, AZ 85260

5. Rio Montana Park: I was so excited when we discovered this great park! Not only was it a big hit with my kids (one who was still new to walking at the time), but it is next to the fire station. While the park itself was wonderful, the biggest treat here was that the firemen are incredibly welcoming and even brought a group we were with through for a tour! The kids got to play on the firetrucks, and literally saw all of the bells and whistles. 11180 N 132nd Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85259

6. Ironwood Park: This park is nicely tucked into a housing development and has been a quiet spot the times we have visited. Again, two shaded play areas based on motor skill levels and access to restrooms. Can’t beat that! 18650 N 94th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

7. Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park: The location of this park provides the perk of a Starbucks stop for mom prior to playtime. This is another park that you have to keep an eye out for because it is slightly tucked away, but it is a great spot! Personally, this is one that I would recommend for kids ages 3 and up. Not really much for the smaller crew (under two years). 8950 E Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

8. Horizon Park: This park resides near our old stomping ground, but we still go out of our way to go back. Horizon has two play areas based on skill level, a great spot for making a mess with water and sand, clean bathrooms and lots of friendly parents! 15444 N. 100th Street  Scottsdale, AZ 85260

9. Sereno Park: This park is located right next to Desert Shadows Elementary and middle schools. It is a great neighborhood spot that has two different play areas, along with tons of wide open space for running around. Some weekend mornings, the fields are used for Cricket practice. There is access to restrooms and shaded seating. 5702 E Sweetwater Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ 85254

Are there any parks I missed? Where are some of your favorite playgrounds to escape to with your kids?

  1. Thanks for these! I’m practically an Arizona native, but there are several parks on your list that I’ve never been to and will definitely be checking out!
