DIY Pre-Swim Leave-in Conditioner for Kids

It’s the end of June SMB friends–I think we all can agree our Scottsdale summer is in full swing.

From the desolate outdoor shopping malls to the glassy-eyed look from moms teetering on the verge of breakdowns, it’s safe to say, summer is here!

Oh, the humanity!

But I digress, back to the point of this post…

Last month, as I leDIYConditioner Image.jpganed my head back in the shampoo bowl while my hairdresser rinsed my hair she shared a genius idea with me:

DIY pre-swim leave-in conditioner for kids.

While I bemoaned what summertime with young kids and never-ending triple-digit days really means to Valley moms, my singleton hairdresser gently nudged me off my soapbox so we could talk about something more meaningful: summer hair care.

I told her that my biggest hair challenge (besides spotting more grey hairs on my head of course) was how the sun and chlorine ravaged my daughters’ hair.

She’s like, “what you should do, is make-your-own leave-in conditioner with an SPF in it and then spray it into their hair before swim-time fun.”

BOOM. I think to myself. This is why she makes the big bucks.

A three-ingredient solution sprayed into their hair before spending time in the pool and ocean.

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • 2-3 teaspoons detangling conditioner
  • 1-2 teaspoons sunscreen

Directions:

Fill a spray bottle about 2/3 full of water. Mix-in the conditioner and the sunscreen. Shake vigorously. Voila.

The Results:

My two older girls go into the pool most afternoons while my youngest naps. I’ve been using this for the last few weeks and it has really helped protect their hair. It also makes brushing it after swimming less difficult.

A win-win in my book!
