New & Noteworthy for June | Scottsdale Restaurants

For the last month, I have been obsessed with following all the crazy drama over at Amy’s Baking Company in Scottsdale. I ate there a few years ago, and it really was not a bad experience. But after watching Kitchen Nightmares, I would be too scared to ever go to that restaurant again. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you can get a quick recap here or watch the episode here.

But all local drama aside, there are some great new places around town and I thought it would be fun to do a New & Noteworthy post focused on Scottsdale restaurants.

coconutsMy new favorite restaurant is Coconut’s Fish Café on the corner of Bell and Scottsdale Road. Their fish tacos with mango salsa, served with delicious coconut-milk coleslaw, are truly AMAZING. I really do crave this place. Since I sometimes can’t find a parking spot at the restaurant, I know I am not the only one. My only complaint is that the fish tacos come only in an order of two, which is presented on two plates. So unless I am eating with a friend to split the tacos with, it is slightly awkward to eat there. If they would let me buy just one taco or the two tacos came on one plate, I would probably be there every day.

The Oils and Olives Store at Kierland Commons is a retail space and tasting room that has been open for about a year, but I just stopped in there last month for the first time. If you try to support local businesses, this store is a great place to find products produced in Arizona.

They carry a bunch of different flavors of olive oils, tapenades, and vinegars all locally made at the Queen Creek Olive Mill. It is fun to try the different flavors of products in the store. Plus, you can find great gifts, local wines, and natural bath products. I bought their Mexican lime olive oil. I brushed it on fresh corn on the cob before I grilled it up, and it was so good.

These are my new finds so far for 2013. What is your new favorite restaurant or food find? Is there some place new on your list of must try
