Botox Gone Bad

My best friend called me in tears- her beauty treatment turned her into a beast (her words not mine.) Her first time trying to tackle wrinkles with Botox… went terribly wrong.

botox gone bad Before even “going under” the needle, I would recommend using someone who you’ve actually seen their work (example: a friend’s face). Personally, I know and trust Heather Anderson, MSN, NP-C. She has 13+ years in cosmetic dermatology,is an expert in skin care and injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers. She also founded Anderson Medical Aesthetics several years ago. She is located here in North Scottsdale AND helped answer my questions for this blog (I am not getting paid to plug her, just thankful for her time and expertise.)

So, what exactly is Botox?

With a poke of a needle, Botox temporarily freezes the muscles in your face that are making frown lines or crows feet. In time, your muscle won’t be able to contract anymore, therefore cutting down on wrinkles.

So what if (like my B.F.F.) it goes bad?

Heather says, go back to the injector. Depending on the issues, he or she may be able to correct the problem. But unfortunately, in some cases it is a matter of just letting it wear off (3-6 months). She adds that even the best injector occasionally can have an unwanted side effect. That is why it is SO VERY important to go to someone reputable. She recommends a Board certified Dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Non-physicians such as RNs, Nurse Practitioners, PA’s should have trained under or worked for a Dermatologist or plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic injectables. She warns that anyone, including physicians in other specialty areas, can go to a week long training course, but if they do not have experience is cosmetic procedures and dermatology these courses don’t offer much hands on experience… which is key!

To come full circle, my bestie did not go back to the injector (who is NOT located in Scottsdale FYI) because she was afraid he would make things worse. She did end up seeing someone more qualified who gave her a little “fix,” but for the next couple months, its big sunglasses, a hat and some patience.

Experiences like these are never ones we want our friends or ourselves to have but knowing that they may be able to correct brings a little peace of mind. Helpful read. Thanks for sharing.

Coming from a Medical spa back round I also recommend knowing that the company you choose to be injected with is part of Brilliant distinctions. This is a program ran thru Allergan the maker of Botox and the Juvederm family Fillers. This will also mean they buy the products from Allergen and are on the up and up. There is practices out there (not all of them) who buy “fake” Botox and fillers from counterfit suppliers. Do your home work and if a deal is too good to be true it most likely is. Spend the little extra money and have it done the right way. Honestly Pearl MedSpa is the place to go!

I use cosmetic acupuncture instead of Botox. Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to manage aging with no side effects. My girl Constance at Scottsdale Integrtaive Acupuncture is amazing! I just got a cellulite treatment with cups done last night!
