6 Helpful Travel Apps

School will  be out soon and summer travel plans will be in full swing. When you are managing travel with family, it’s helpful to use technology to your advantage. Where is the closest gas station on your road trip? How do you take memorable photographs of your trip? When is the best time to purchase airline tickets? Is your flight delayed? There are travel apps that you can download on your phone to ease all of your vacation concerns.

What’s a great travel app for a road trip?

If you are on a road trip, you’ll likely need to stop for gas. Knowing the locations of gas stations can be helpful, especially when your tank is hovering close to empty. The Gas Buddy travel app will help you locate the closest gas stations to your location and also tell you the approximate price. There is no need to drive from one gas station to another to determine what will fit your budget.

Want to know the ins and outs of a particular airport?

For those facing long delays at the airport, for the family who is on a time crunch moving through security or for a recommendation on the best dining options at various terminals, Gate Guru will answer those inquires and more. If you need a map of the terminal, as well as security wait times, this app is a must.

Don’t want to pay for WiFi?

Chances are you will need WiFi to navigate a new city. Whether you want to find the best time to visit a particular tourist site or the best gelato in town, you will need your WiFi connection on your phone to check out the latest in your destination. The good news is that you don’t have to use your data plan or pay ridiculous fees with the Free WiFi Finder app. In any urban location you can locate the closest free WiFi hubs.

Need a travel guide?

There is  no need to pack a bulky travel guide in your carry-on luggage. The Lonely Planet travel guide app is available for most cities – similar to the book version, it provides the best tourist attractions, tidbits about local culture and all the musts of your destination. The bonus? This guide is completely free to download.

Want to give your photographs some extra pizzaz?

An ordinary photograph turns into something magnificent with Instagram. With editing, filters and adjustments available from the convenience of your phone, why carry a camera with multiple lenses? With Instagram, you can take a great picture and share it with family and friends at the same time.

How do you send a postcard to your loved ones from your phone?

Do you want to send your loved ones a personalized post card? No need to shop at the gift shop for the perfect card or worry about stamps – with the Touchnote app, create a postcard from your photo images add your message and then with a click of a button send to family and friends across the globe.

What are your favorite travel apps? We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for the write up Rudri, some great apps for traveling! I’d also suggest Postsnap, an alternative to Tuchnote… i’ve a tried a few postcard apps but Postsnap (www.postsnap.com) is the best that I’ve come across in terms of price, quality and ease-of-use. Just thought it’s worth a mention: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/postsnap-the-best-postcards-greeting-cards-app/id650814139?mt=8
