We’ve made it to May, Scottsdale! You just have to finish up this month and then its summer vacay! You’re so close and your friends at SMB are all rallying for you to finish strong. This guide has the mom about town covered for family friendly events around Scottsdale.

Here are some ideas of the local offerings happening this month. Check it out! 

McCormick Stillman Railroad Park’s Concert Series – Sundays from April 30. Enjoy a variety of local bands from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sundays at the park. Bring a blanket, chairs and snacks, or buy munchies on-site. Train and carousel tickets are $2 each with kids younger than 2 riding free with a paying adult. Farmer’s Markets – There are a number of Farmer’s Markets all around the valley.  The Old Town Scottsdale Farmer’s Market located at Brown & 1st Ave is a great one to check out. It’s open on Saturdays from 8am-1pm until the end of May and features local growers and specialty food producers. Be ready to find a wide variety of organic, and pesticide free produce, seasonal specialties such as cider and apples, flowers, natural pork, beef, fish, and free range eggs, and local cheeses, freshly baked artisan breads, Amish friendship breads, jams, and tamales are just some of the great local foods you’ll find. Planet Shark: Predator or Prey – Exhibits runs until May 29 at AZ Science Center. Go on an incredible journey into the underwater world of sharks – without ever getting your feet wet. Cutting-edge SENSORY4TM Technology provides a walk-through, multi-sensory cinematic gallery experience that will leave you deeply immersed in the story of this magnificent yet misunderstood animal. Trace millions of years of evolution, come face-to-face with the great white shark and gain a whole new level of respect for the ocean’s oldest predator we all love to fear. Sesame Street Live, Elmo Makes Music – May 3 & 4, Mesa Arts Center. Elmo, the Count, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Bert & Ernie and all their friends arrive to perform on stage and share the world of music with children. By helping a new teacher find her missing instruments, the Sesame Street crew will teach kids that anyone can make music.6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3-Thursday, May 4. Cinco de Mayo – May 5, at every Mexican restaurant in town. After exhaustive research, I was not able to find a local to Scottsdale event that was specifically promoted as a family event. If crowds and long waits aren’t your idea of family fun, create your own fiesta at home with family & friends. Here’s some menu ideas from the Food Network.  

Scottsdale Bloom: An Event for New and Expecting Mothers – Saturday, May 6 4pm-6pm, at Perk Eatery, hosted by Scottsdale Moms Blog. Scottsdale Moms Blog is so happy to announce our event :: BLOOM :: for new and expecting mothers with our partner Elevate Chiropractic. BLOOM is a nationwide event hosted by City Moms Blog Network and over 50 different sister site cities. It is designed to bring resources, information, experts and fun to mothers who are either expecting, have young children or are looking to grow their family in the near future. As with all of our events, there will be some amazing swag bags, chance to win awesome prizes, food, drinks and time to mingle with other moms. We hope you make plans to attend! National Clean Up Your Room Day – Wednesday May 10. It’s an actual day, Moms! It’s a day about picking up, straightening up and cleaning up. It’s also a day to do some serious spring cleaning and make your surroundings more pleasant. Clean out a cluttered closet and donate or throw away those things you are not using. Maybe make this the day you finally start KonMaring your home. Talking to myself, here.  

Multi-Generational Mother’s Day Tea Party – Saturday, May 13 12pm-1:30pm at the Idea Museum in Mesa. Dusting off the Chinaware to celebrate all of the special Mothers and Grandmothers at our Mother’s Day Tea Party. Create cucumber sandwiches, decorate a mug for the woman of honor, sip tea and build memories. Head on over to Idea Museum website for registration information and see what’s planned for Mother’s Day! Each participant must register. Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 14. Moms’ and their ideas of the perfect Mother’s Day is definitely as unique and special as she is. Brother’s Day – Wednesday, May 24. This mama of 2 boys, sister to a brother, and wife to a brother just had to include this day. Of course, they’ve been known to put toads on your head or gum in your hair.  They may have been too cool for you once upon a time.  Brothers come in many shapes and sizes and so do their relationships. Whatever yours is take the time to celebrate your brother on Brother’s Day. Use #BrothersDay to share on social media. 

Last Day of School – Thursday, May 25 for Scottsdale Unified School District and Paradise Valley Unified School District. We got this, Mamas!  

Cave Creek Balloon Festival – Saturday, May 27 5:30-10:00pm. The 8th Annual Cave Creek Balloon Festival signature Cave Creek event returns to the stunning location of the Rancho Manana Driving range. As we honor Memorial Day, guests will enjoy a military fly-by, live music, food and beverage, Kidszone, a hot air balloon glow and a fireworks finale! Enjoy the musical stylings of local favorite artists. We start the evening off with our military fly-by and cap the evening off in style with the Fireworks Finale. Buy tickets in advance (by 5/25/2017) to save money and time in line! Guests with pre-purchased tickets will enjoy a separate entrance  this year. There is fun for the whole family at the 8th Annual Cave Creek Balloon Festival! Play Date: Adult Prom – May 27 7pm-11pm at Phoenix Children’s Museum. Plan a fun date night out with your dream date (or go stagette!). Play like a kid again on 3 floors of interactive exhibits! PLUS…cash bars, DJ & dancing, food trucks, retro board games, giant beer pong, giant Jenga, glitter tattoos, henna tattoos, photobooth, and so much more! Memorial Day – Monday, May 29. Celebrate the kick-off to the summer season with a backyard BBQ/swim party with family, friends & neighbors, or check into a local resort for a relaxing staycation. Whatever you do, stay safe and have fun!
