Ten Book Themed Gifts for the Kids in Your Life

0

Guys, I am FULL of holiday spirit. I decorate the house like it’s my job. I host a bunch of people. I bake a bunch of cookies. I love everything about November and December! But I have to admit – my kid’s presents give me a bit of anxiety. We have a big family and lots of close friends, so between aunts and uncles and cousins and besties, not to mention the grandparents that go overboard (I’m looking at you mom!) we end up with a lot. We are so very grateful, but to be honest a lot of things don’t make it out of the packaging until months later (we actually just opened the last toy I had stashed in the closet a month ago). There are two categories of things that I will never discourage though! The first being art supplies (I have crafty kids that go through A LOT of paint, play-doh and paper) and the second being books!

Books never go out of style and my house is always excited for them, but I understand that sometimes giving a book doesn’t seem like a “complete” present (though trust us, it is!). So to help you out, I’ve come up with a list of book-themed gifts for the kids in your life. The book will always be the star of the show (used books count too! Well-loved books hold a special kind of magic!) but sometimes just adding a little something extra makes the difference.

  1. The Day the Crayons Quit (Drew Dewalt, Oliver Jeffers). Add a box of crayons and an awesome notepad.
  2. Lulu & Pip or Kiki and Coco in Paris (Nina Gruener). How about adding a doll just like the one in the books? You can sew one (they are fairly simple) or find one on etsy.
  3. How Much is that Doggie in the Window (Iza Trapani). Pair this gift with a cute wallet and a few dollars so kiddos can start learning about saving their pennies.
  4. Plant a Kiss (Amy Krouse Rosenthal). For the little gardener in your life – you can pair this tale with some outdoor tools or a cute plant they can take care of all on their own.
  5. Toy Boat (Loren Long, Randell de Seve). You can add a toy boat kit (I found a few on Amazon), or collect the same items used in the book (a can, a cork, a yellow pencil, and some white cloth) and let some imaginations run wild.
  6. Rose Revere, Engineer (Andrea Beaty, David Roberts). Want to work on some STEM skills? Include an inventor set  or or a science kit to get those brains creating.
  7. Julia, Child (Kyo Maclear, Julie Morstad). Such a cute story that would certainly go with some cool measuring spoons for your little cook. Or some mini versions of kitchen items used all the time. We have a kid-sized rolling pin that my daughter loves to use when we are baking together.
  8. Dragons Love Tacos (Adam Rubin). Everyone loves tacos so this is automatically a win! I’ve seen a Shopkins Taco, taco socks, and even a board game, but of course there’s a dragon plush that you can easily get to match the book!
  9. Where the Wild Things Are (Maurice Sendak). Always a favorite in our house. Pair the book with this great print from CovertoCoverCreative. Or custom order a print to match any book you please!
  10. Boogie Monster Dance Kit (Josie Bissett, Kevan Atteberry). This one is a kit, so it’s ready to go. Such a cute story and “dance experience” that the whole family can giggle at.

There you have it folks! What did I miss? I have so much fun looking for books that it was hard for me to narrow it down!
