Christmas Bucket List

Christmas Bucket List

One of the Christmas traditions I always look forward to is an Advent calendar filled with chocolate. Sharing this with our daughter during her first Christmas season was something my husband and I anticipated. That is, until we realized she might be a liiiiittle too young to have chocolate. I ended up finding a great Advent wreath at Target and came up with a new plan.

Rather than filling our Advent calendar with candy, my husband and I made a list of some of our favorite Christmas traditions. We called it our Annual Christmas Bucket List. These included activities from our childhoods as well as new traditions we started together after moving to Scottsdale. I typed a list of everything we could think of. Together, we picked our 25 favorite activities. I printed the list, cut them up by day, and hid one in each of the wreath’s compartments.

Over the years, we’ve added on to our list of Christmas traditions. We have a saved document with dozens of ideas (see the images below). Each year, we pick our favorites. Ideas range from extravagant local events to something as simple as going for a drive in our pajamas, listening to Christmas music, and enjoying the neighborhood light displays.

A nightly activity may be too intense for some families, but for us, it’s part of what makes Christmas magical. Here’s a tip we learned along the way: make a few extra slips of paper with low-key activities (watching a favorite holiday movie, drinking cocoa near the tree, etc.) and swap out an activity when you need a little break. It may not be a white Christmas in Scottsdale, but we try our best to make the holiday season special and hold on to our favorite Christmas traditions.

We created a printer friendly version of the bucket list too.
