From the Editor’s Desk: Halloween!

Since launching in 2010, Scottsdale Moms Blog has been a wealth of information for local and visiting families. We have had so many contributors share their advice and tips for all things parenting and living life in AZ. After publishing, much of the wonderful information gets lost in the world of archives. We started this series to bring these posts back to life. We will focus on a different theme each month and bring you the best that SMB has on that topic.

This month’s theme is, of course, HALLOWEEN! Time to get dressed up, eat all the candy, and have some fantastic – and a little bit scary – fun with friends and family. We have had posts on all sorts of Halloween topics, everything from DIY costumes to decorations to favorite books. Click on the links below to read more from our past posts.

In only 20 minutes, you’ll have a festive and elegant centerpiece or mantel display to add to your Halloween decoration collection. If you’re going to a Halloween party this year, this can also be done on full wine bottles – a perfect gift for the ghoulish host or hostess! Place your bottles on a kitchen or serving tray, accessorize with your favorite ghostly trinkets, maybe add some spider webs and the scene has been set for a scary serving space.

Halloween is around the corner and it’s time to start decorating our pumpkins. Sure, for big kids, this usually means carving! However, if you have little ones who are still too young to hold knives, or if you simply want to keep the pumpkins intact so they don’t rot away before Halloween, here are 7 no carve pumpkin craft ideas for you to get started on. The best part? None of them involve knives!

I had no choice but to let them be dinosaurs for Halloween this year and I decided to make the dinosaur costumes myself. You see, I have two big issues with store-bought Halloween costumes….1) they are so over-priced for something that will most likely be worn only once 2) they are generally made to keep kids warm – which works great for the rest of the country, but here in AZ it means my kids are a hot, sweaty mess while walking around the neighborhood.

We love incorporating seasonal books into our holiday celebrations, but finding non-scary Halloween books can be a challenge. If you have sensitive little ones at home, here are five Halloween books for preschoolers that won’t become the stuff of nightmares.

I also know that it is a very stressful time of year for many people who are trying to enjoy the holidays, while stay within a budget. My goal is always to help people on their savings journey, so I’m happy to give you 3 tips today that I think can help you cut some costs this month, and hopefully the entire holiday season.

Alright Moms, we all know it’s coming.  Candy, candy and more candy! With Halloween parties, decorative bowls of candy corn, and of course Trick-or-Treating, the sugar rush is upon us. I doubt I’m alone when I say “I choose my battles” when it comes to my happy home of determined toddlers. So this year, I thought I would take a different approach to limit Halloween candy while avoiding the sugar argument as much as possible
