From the Editor’s Desk: DIY Projects

Since launching in 2010, Scottsdale Moms Blog has been a wealth of information for local and visiting families. We have had so many contributors share their advice and tips for all things parenting and living life in AZ. After publishing, much of the wonderful information gets lost in the world of archives. We started this series to bring these posts back to life. We will focus on a different theme each month and bring you the best that SMB has on that topic.

This month we are talking DIY projects! Our contributors have shared lots of simple projects over the years, how to make everything from bows to curtains. Things that are actually do-able and may even make your life a tad bit easier in the long run. Break out the hot glue gun and scissors and find some DIY inspiration below!

I posted the DIY Roller Shades I made for our playroom on one of those Swip Swap Facebook Groups. Turns out everyone was going bananas for these shades, and rather than buying the ones I already made (bittersweet), they kept asking me how I made them!

I’m no esthetician  but I DO use and believe in all natural, organic products and produce on my skin. Yep, you read that right! Simple ingredients that you can find in your pantry and refrigerator is what I use on my face. Here are a few of my standby’s that I use. These are recipes for washing your face AND facial masks that I’ve found to be super amazing on my skin.

I set out to find an inexpensive and simple solution and decided that recovering them myself was the perfect fit. I recovered 4 bar stools for $18.

The preschooler in our house is constantly presenting her daddy with artwork that she wants him to “take to work and hang in his office to show his clients.” And the truth is, he does meet with clients frequently and has created a beautiful office space with lots of photos of the kids. Preschool artwork isn’t out of the question – it just needs to be tactfully displayed.

So when I wanted to create a stylish Craft & Gift Wrapping space without breaking the bank, I discovered the amazing potential for these containers! What I used:  2 cans of gold spray paint, one Sterilite container and a pack of metal accent labels.  That’s it!  In less than 30 minutes and less than $30, this is what I came up with…

“If you’re going to have a daughter, I really need to teach you how to make hair bows.” Now honestly, I’m not the craftiest person around but she convinced me this was a skill I simply must learn. She promised me it would be easy. She promised me they would be darling. She promised me it would save me a ton of money. And, knowing I am a visual learner, she promised to make me a photo slideshow to teach me just how to do it.
