10 Reasons Why I Love Target More Than Costco

10 Reasons why I love Target more than costco (6)Target. Costco.

Two words that send moms into declarations of love while conjuring up gleeful images of roaming the aisles with reckless abandon, scoring deal after deal. While both stores offer large quantities of family items, from floss to furniture, all at reasonable prices – moms seem to pledge their allegiance to just one. #TeamTarget or #TeamCostco. Which are you?

#TeamCostco, I tried to join your tribe. I really did. I even have a Costco membership! But I am #TeamTarget for life for these (and many other) reasons…

  1. In-Store Starbucks
Target, you get me. You know just what makes me happy. Caffeine. Yes, the ginormous slices of pizza and hot dogs at Costco can be a great gutfill, but mama needs a pick-me-up!
  2. No Membership Card or Annual Fee
I don’t have to spend money in order to walk into Target to pick up toilet paper. Target accepts me for who I am. There’s no pay to play.
  3. Bright and Colorful
Target just feels more cheerful with its colorful red accents and fun in-store décor. The bright lights and lower ceilings make me feel comfortable and at home among friends rather than lost in a large, cold warehouse with strangers.
  4. Bullseye’s Playground
    Bullseye's Playground. A bargain hunter's paradise.
    Bullseye’s Playground. A bargain hunter’s paradise.

Bargain lovers always score big in this tiny section located at the front of the store. Seriously, what can’t you find here?!  Gift wrap? Check. Summer hat? Check. Garden Gnomes? Saw those too! All of it under $5. Simply amazing.

  5. Bulk and Single Item Buying
There are times when Costco bulk can be useful, like when throwing a party and you need 48 hamburger buns. But that’s not my everyday life. We may be a family of four, but that doesn’t mean we have enough room in our freezer for Costco’s 3-pound bag of chicken nuggets and 24 pack of veggie burgers which we won’t finish for a year. What if I only want chocolate chip granola bars, not the other two varieties in the Costco bulk pack?! At Target, I can buy just chocolate chip granola bars or try a new kind of cereal without having to commit to three boxes. Target offers economy packs of items like paper towels, that are a great deal, last awhile, and that I can fit into my cabinet. It’s the perfect amount of bulk buying for my family.
  6. Pampers
After Huggies diapers failed to contain my newborn’s blowouts and I ripped countless wipes trying to get them out of the package, I ran to Costco for Pampers only to find heartbreak when I was told they don’t carry Pampers! Target saved my sanity not only with economy size boxes of Pampers, but with cute onesies, a Father’s Day card, stain remover, mascara, and many other fabulous finds.
  7. Family Dressing Rooms
“I love taking my kids to return something that doesn’t fit,” said no mom ever. My kids, my cart, and I can fit comfortably inside Target’s spacious family dressing room where we can try before we buy. It can also be a quiet, comfortable space when your baby decides it’s mealtime.

Bulleye's photo station and every child's favorite place to chill.
“But first, let me take a #selfie!”
  8. Bulleye’s Photo Station
Bullseye, the cute and social media savvy Target mascot, has his own photo backdrop in the middle of Target! The ultimate distraction if your little one gets cranky during your Target run since no child can resist petting the Target dog.
  9. Aisle Signs
I can navigate my home Target with my eyes closed, but if I were ever in an unfamiliar Target I’d be able to find what I needed quickly since the aisles are clearly marked. Costco doesn’t mark their aisles, sending me on a wild goose chase that I really don’t have time for… especially when I accidentally end up in the candy section with my kids in tow.
  10. Multiple Forms of Payment Accepted
My mommy brain can never remember what credit card Costco wants me to use! But at Target they’ll take them all! Visa, Amex, Mastercard, Red Card, Gift Card, Cash, Check, Cheerios, or any combination… (well, except about the Cheerios).

Are you #TeamTarget or #TeamCostco?
