Pines Motel is a small, affordable, family run motel in Cottonwood, AZ.  They recently invited my family to stay for two nights in exchange for writing this post. All opinions are my own. pinesmotel

Looking to get out of town for a weekend getaway? Pines Motel has you covered! Only 10 miles from Jerome and 15 miles from Sedona, Cottonwood is a thriving little town with a whole lot of fun right at it’s doorsteps. Conveniently located, Pines Motel lets you optimize your time away. Less time in the car means more time for fun.

We left Scottsdale Friday afternoon and headed north on the I-17. It only took us about two hours to reach the motel–long enough to feel like we were getting away, but short enough to keep the kids entertained with a stack of books and snacks.

Arriving at the Pines Motel, I was really pleased to see some cool amenities. They are Certified Green and not only have recycling available in every room, but they also have charging stations for electric cars and Teslas.IMG_0268

A nice looking pool greeted us, but weather wasn’t on our side over the weekend, so we couldn’t take a dip. It looked like a great little spot to get refreshed in the summer months.IMG_0082

Looking around, the rooms were basic but clean. We stayed in the Apartment Suite and it has a queen bed in its own room. The main living area has a sleeper sofa and a murphy bed, both queen size and fold up to give you more space during the day. Our little one still sleeps in a crib, so we requested a pack and play and it was ready and waiting when we arrived. Multiple sleep options worked great for our family, giving us all a little more space and options when the littles got restless during the night. They always do, don’t they? 😉

The suite rooms have a nice sized kitchenette, complete with all the supplies you need if you want to stay for an extended period or decide cooking in the room is the way to go. I did see there is a Papa Murphy’s take and bake pizza shop just around the corner, several full sized grocery stores and some smaller markets. It’s a great way to save some money or to chill in the room if the kids are just done from a day out and about.IMG_0262

My favorite feature of the Pines Motel has to be the concierge service. Not only do they know pretty much all there is to do in the area, but they have a great working relationship with many of the highlights and are able to offer package deals and discounts based on what you want to do. Having a plan is really a great way to optimize your getaways, ensuring your adventures don’t go over budget.IMG_0081

Lindsey walked us through some fabulous highlights of the area back in March, with more than a weekend worth of adventures.

Here’s my family’s weekend itinerary 🙂

Friday

5:00-8:30 Blazin M’ Ranch My family’s highlight of the trip. This place knows how to make you feel special. Arrive early so you can enjoy the ranch experience, complete with wagon ride, shops and games. IMG_0115

Saturday

9:30-2:30 Out of Africa We went with the basic tickets and added the train safari. Our guide on the train was amazing. The staff really love their jobs here and are passionate about their work with the animals.

3:00-5:00 Alcantara Vineyards In a Tuscan style setting, wine enthusiasts can sample wines from one of Arizona’s top wineries. We lucked out and the baby napped in the stroller while the rest of us relaxed and enjoyed live music in a picturesque garden.IMG_0246 IMG_0244 IMG_0243 IMG_0242

5:30-7:00 Bocce The pizzas were delicious, but the kids thought the Shirley Temples were out of this world! Our waiter even made a mini in a shot glass for my toddler. Talk about special…

Sunday

9:00-10:00 Mile High Grill We ordered pancakes for breakfast…a little goes a long way! Three blueberry pancakes more than satisfied my hungry family of four.

10:30-11:30 Jerome State Historic Park and Douglas Mansion Get in touch with Arizona’s copper mining history. The kids loved walking around all the old mine cars and touching the giant rock samples. The panoramic views from here really give you a sense of pride in the beauty of AZ. IMG_0286

Thank you, Cory and family, for sharing your Cottonwood with us!
