Best Holiday Gifts {Older Children’s Books}

Top 10 stories for 3rd graders and up!

books gift guide

As we approach the upcoming holidays of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, one of the best investments you can give to a child is a new book. A real book, one with a cover, pages, and words! No hand-held electronic learning devices can compete with the precious moments when an adult reads to a child (or when a child reads to an adult).

As a mother to four children, I have had plenty of time (and experience!) to refine our list of favorite children’s books. I have been surrounded by many boys, so many of my reading choices are based on what my boys read – listed with blue numbers. However, I have also included several wonderful titles for girls – listed with pink numbers! These books are what we have found make some of the best holiday gifts for those in the 3rd grade and up.

This is a peek at one of my bookshelves at home, filled to the brim with children’s books. It’s one of the perks of homeschooling – my family has invested a great deal in reading together.

As with all things, please consider your child’s reading ability, interests, and attention span – and then dive in to the world of books! I know it will be a blessing for both of you.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
