Peace.

That is my mantra throughout this pregnancy.

When I was pregnThe Belly Diaries Logoant with my son, I completed a Hypnobabies course to learn about childbirth hypnosis. During the six-week course I learned a whole lot more about having a healthy pregnancy, birthing options, the importance of surrounding yourself with positive messages and how to have a peaceful pregnancy and birth experience. Hypnosis isn’t at all how it’s portrayed in movies or on a late night comedy show where someone controls you, it’s about you being in control and choosing to relax your mind and body.

Can birth really be peaceful?

Luke’s sure was! I was really blessed with an amazing birth. I carried him to almost 41 weeks, went to a concert in the park, came home, took a bath, watched the news, and my pressure waves started (Hypnobabies term for contractions). I truly had a comfortable, peaceful, natural and normal birth experience.

32 week ultrasoundAs soon as I found out I was pregnant this time, I knew I would turn to Hypnobabies again, not only for the birth experience I wanted; but also for the relaxing affect it has on pregnancy.

Finding out I had “Placenta Previa” (low-lying placenta) early in my pregnancy was not the news I wanted to hear. Questions of bed rest, monthly ultrasounds, scheduled c-sections, and placenta ruptures have kept me up at night. I was thankful to be living in the 21st century and to have these modern medical technologies available to me.

But, I was no longer sure if it was worth the time and effort of daily Hypnobabies practice if I was going to end up having a c-section.

Then I started to feel uncomfortable and anxious.

I knew it was time to start practicing no matter what birth experience we will have.

Finding time to practice my Hypnobabies is another story. Last time I listened to a positive pregnancy affirmation CD whenever I got in the car. Now I would feel a bit weird having my son listen to it every day. The dishes and laundry can wait, so I focus on some “me time”  when he naps. I put my feet up and practice my self hypnosis until I fall asleep. Naps are a good thing!

Hot ChocolateOh, and so is hot chocolate

I’ve been indulging in my favorite kind as a treat almost every day. Luke is starting to compete with me in chocolate addiction, but has yet to try my hoarded drink. I tell him it’s coffee. 😉

Happy Mommy=Happy Baby.
