Dress-up CowboyMy son is obsessed with being a cowboy. He has two shirts he calls his “Howdy Shirts,” a leather cowboy vest from the 70’s that was actually my husband’s when he was a kid, a red bandana, a darling felt cowboy hat, and the most perfect leather boots we found at Saba’s in Old Town.

Every time we drive past Westworld, he asks if we are going to a “Howdy Show.” We drive north on Pima Rd. and he’s begging to go to Pinnacle Peak Patio so he can dance in circles and ride the fifty-cent pony ride at the front of the restaurant. His latest craze is begging you to come see his own “Howdy Show”, which consists of him getting dressed as a cowboy from head to toe, singing “Home on the Range,” jumping over pool noodles, line dancing and hiding his hat in the most obvious places. I asked Luke what we should call Baby Brother when he is born and he confidently declared, “Howdy-Guy, like me.

30-Week ultrasound

As you can imagine, Luke is noticing all the changes in the house. We’ve been setting up a nursery over the last few weeks, sharing all the things Luke has outgrown. I asked Luke what he will do when he hears Baby Brother crying and he told me he will give him his nee-nee (pacifier), which he still sleeps with at bed time. Every morning when I go into Luke’s room to get him up for the day, we sing the good morning song I made up when he was a baby and play a round of peek-a-boo between the crib rails. This morning when I went in to get Luke, he declared, “I play peek-a-boo with Baby Brother.”  Tonight he asked to pray for Baby Brother as we got ready for bed. My Mommy heart is melting.

Baby Diaries 30 weeks

As the months are now turning into weeks, I am anxiously waiting to see if Baby Genetti will want to dress up as “A Howdy” as well. Or, perhaps he will be completely different. Will he have a thing for super heros?

One thing I know for sure is this baby is going to have a Big Brother who is going to love him with all his heart.

Oh and by the way, as much as we love our soon to be-big -brother, “Howdy-guy” has not made the cut for our list of top boy names!

  1. My son calls his pacifier a Nee-nee also. Not sure where that came from. He will be just under 2 and a half when his brother gets here. He is also a big fan of cowboys and has boots and a hat as well. Sounds like our little guys would be good buddies.
