It’s archives week here at SMB. Here’s one from our early days:

mom·sen·se (mɒm sens) noun 1. practical motherly intelligence that is sensible or reasonable 2. a mother’s mental discernment, realization, or recognition – She has momsense. OR She used her momsense to determine that something was amiss.
I love great tips that are 1. easy to remember, 2. easy to implement and 3. make my life easier. I guess that means I’m lazy, but I’m okay with that. Therefore, anyone who can make my life easier is My Hero. And, I come across plenty of moms whose heroics are noteworthy. Which leads me to say:
The more I learn, the more I learn how little I know. — Socrates
This is especially true when it comes to being a mom. I like to think that I can “figure it out.” Which is mostly true, but I love to glean wisdom from moms who wear the badge of tried and true experience.
My friend Erin M, a former teacher and mother of three, has plenty of Momsense to share. She came over along with her daughters (almost) 3 and 5-year-old. They were coming to play with Reagan (6.5 months). To prepare them for the playtime she asked herself “how do I want them to interact with a baby?”
- Be gentle (What is “gentle” specifically? Demonstrate being “gentle” on them.)
- Be careful of sharing germs (Where should they touch/not touch baby? Talk about hand washing. Do not put your fingers in baby’s mouth 🙂 Kiss baby’s hair, but not face, etc
- Baby plays on clean blankets, your shoes will make it dirty. Therefore, please keep your shoes off baby’s blanket.
It’s simple, but oh-so-wise. I love the simply wise. Sigh.
Here are some tips to think about before you leave the house with your Preschooler: Ask yourself the question, what do my kids need to know BEFORE we do the next thing? What assumptions am I making about their prior knowledge/experience?
Get out your capes, ladies. This kind of information is dangerous!

Complete this sentence: I can’t believe I’m a mom because I still am a night person! I have a hard time going to bed before midnight!
